USAG XCEL TEAM
Head Coach USAG Xcel Team: Carly Ames
Xcel is a national USA Gymnastics program that offers competitive gymnastics levels that runs alongside the Junior Olympic (JO) program. Xcel (invitation only) is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable and competitive experience. The program is broken down into 5 optional levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. The Xcel program offers an alternative to the very demanding nature of the Junior Olympic program while still allowing the gymnast to compete within the USAG system. The number of hours is reduced and there is flexibility in competition requirements. The competitive season runs January through June annually.
The Xcel program was created as an alternative for girls wishing a competitive gymnastics experience that allows them to have other interests and activities. This is a year-round program, but the weekly training hours and monthly tuition are significantly less than the JO program. If you think about most other sports, like for example soccer, as soon as kids join the sport they almost immediately start competing in games and tournaments. With gymnastics it wasn’t this way. Kids would join gymnastics and have to take classes for several years before they were invited to join a team program. The Xcel program allows gymnasts to start competing almost right away. The Xcel program allows gymnasts from new to the sport to the very highest competitive abilities with opportunities. It also has more advanced levels that allow gymnasts to keep competing in the Xcel program as they learn more skills, but without the same pressure ir time commitment as theJO program. The Xcel program is ideal for not only entry-level gymnasts, but also older gymnasts that are looking for a fun way to participate and compete in the sport they love. In addition, many high school gymnastics programs use similar rules as Xcel. Therefore, our Xcel program can be a terrific way to prepare gymnasts to try out and train for their high school gymnastics team.
Participation on our Xcel Teams is by invitation only. At this time athletes will be selected and assigned to one of the 5 levels of the Xcel program based upon their abilities. Selection will be merit based. Interested athletes may schedule evaluations with Kayla and our coaching staff. Please contact us to schedule an evaluation: 720-745-6656.
